God’s in the Details | Alternate Title: Whisper Mountain’s Chocolate River

Two things: 1. the body of Christ functioning properly is a beautiful thing to behold; 2. our God is big on knocking our socks off with His provision and care, especially in the dirty details!

Story Time!

This spring we have been having boat loads of rain. Wonderful for all the things looking lush and green and beautiful. Unfortunate for gravel roads that run through Whisper Mountain Camp! Every year, we spend hundreds of dollars to put a gravel base on our road to make it drivable for the guests and staff. Every year, we watch the rain wash said gravel into the creek and rut out our roads. Think Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory’s chocolate river down the middle of our road! Then think Grand Canyon as a result! It’s bad!

The thing about living in the mountains is that water from the top must run down. These are things one doesn’t consider when looking at our beautiful landscape. Water coming down from something is a powerful force! The hours Marty (and Ramsey and Shaun) have spent on the tractor after a rain is unreal, and usually at the worst times just to make it drivable!

A friend of Marty’s happened to talk to him just after we’d had a super bad rain storm just a few weeks ago. He was asking how things were going and Marty just naturally shared his frustration with the road being washed out yet again. This friend gets off the phone and seemingly calls a friend who calls a friend who announces things in a church life group and before we know it, $10,000 has been sent to Whisper Mountain to buy new gravel to fill in the road again.

We are over here like, what just happened? How did so and so hear about this? How did this all just suddenly come in? When we are floored, we know it’s God! And when a crowd comes together, we know God has put something on their heart to take action on. And all of this is for the work He is already doing. Just before summer, as He’s orchestrating the right campers to be here at the right time, God is literally paving the way for them to come and hear His truth and encounter His whisper in these mountains!

Guys, do you see how beautiful this all is? Before we ask, He’s already taking action on the things that concern us and ultimately bring Him glory. There truly is no other God like ours!

We were able to get 15 loads of rock to raise up the road again to the grass line (it’s been a few years!) and make the way smooth! There are still long term solutions we will need to afford at some point, but this is the provision we needed for summer campers coming in so soon!

Thank you to each of you who were used of God to provide for this need — whether the mouth piece or the giver! You are the fragrance of Christ and we couldn’t be more thankful for you following His leading in your life!
